The "US Patent Search" option includes a prior art search of active and expired patents in the USPTO database as well as US published patent applications. The search techniques are based on keywords, class/subclass, and forward/backward references. The results usually contain between five and fifteen references of relevant art.
The "US and International Patent Search" option includes the "US Patent Search" option as well as a prior art search of the European Patent Office (EPO) database and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) databases.
The "US Patent Search with Patentability Opinion" includes the "US Patent Search" option as well as a patentability opinion performed by a registered patent attorney/agent.
The "US and International Patent Search with Patentability Opinion" includes the "US and International Patent Search" option as well as a patentability opinion performed by a registered patent attorney/agent.
The Patentability Opinion is performed by a registered patent attorney/agent. Note that the cost depends on the number and complexity of prior art references cited in a previous patent search.
Please Contact Us to Inquire About a Patentability Opinion
A patent search is usually the first step in the patent process. Inventors can learn if they have a unique idea or an idea that has similar patents (prior art) that have been issued or are in the process of being issued. A patent search should be done before paying for a patent application. It is also a very good idea to have a patentability opinion done by a registered patent agent or patent attorney. These steps can save thousands of dollars in the event that the USPTO examiner denies your patent application due to prior art.
Upon selecting one of the Patent Search options on this page, you will be redirected to our secure payment form, which is processed through First Data (LinkPoint). After payment is made, you may submit the details of your Invention either by completing our Online Invention Disclosure Form or by downloading and completing the printable version of our Invention Disclosure Form to fax or mail to us.
We will then complete the service option that you ordered and email the results to you in a PDF format within 3-5 business days. We can also mail a hardcopy of the results to you through the US Postal Service upon your request. If at any time you have questions, we can be reached by email anytime or by phone at (1.888.380.0050) 9:00am through 5:00pm (EST) Monday through Friday.
